Meet Mr. lamonte
Donald Lamonte begins his twentieth year in education teaching physical education in one of the largest and most dynamic school systems in North Carolina, Wake County Public Schools. He has coached all age groups from four year olds to high school seniors, and coached the three major sports: basketball, football and baseball. In addition, he also has a passion for teaching all sports and life skills to children in a safe, fun, engaging and meaningful way. My absolute favorites, includes teaching the non-traditional sports such as: badminton, archery, lacrosse, wrestling, aerobics, ultimate frisbee, crazy kickball, capture the flag, and speedball because those activities helps to encourage the marginalized and apathetic kids to enjoy & embrace sport participation.
Coach Lamonte is thankful and proud to introduce his queen and three princesses to the Dillard Drive community. He is married to the former L’Tona Michelle Samuels of Winston-Salem, NC and they are proud parents of three lovely girls: Tyler Mikah , Kamry Elise and Kadence Amani . In his new role, he is one of six physical education specialist for Dillard Drive Middle, “A Great Place To Learn.”
Coach Lamonte, is a former baseball letter winner at West Georgia College in Carrollton, Georgia and a proud to be born and raised in Statesboro, Georgia, home of Georgia Southern University, six time National Football Champions. He also still holds the highest batting average at his high school (Statesboro High School), .464.
Coach Lamonte's favorite pastime is watching the SEC Network, HGTV, Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, Chopped, simulating what appears to be dancing, cooking on the grill, watching college football on Saturdays, pick-up basketball & long walks on the beach with his family. He hopes to one day start a non-profit for mentoring the “at promise” kids from poor and disadvantage neighborhoods called, “Bow Tie Brothers.”
